Introduction to METS
	Description:	This course will provide an overview of the METS (Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard) metadata schema. Participants will have the opportunity to create METS records for digital objects that incorporate a variety of metadata languages to encode descriptive, technical and intellectual property information. A discussion of the role of METS in the digital library with some XSLT based solutions will be included. Participants should have a working knowledge of XML. Please note that lunch will be provided.

Description:	RDA (Resource Description and Access) is being developed to replace AACR2 as the standard cataloging rule system in the English-speaking countries. RDA incorporates the FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) model, and also draws on the FRAD (Functional Requirements for Authority Data) model, both developed by IFLA to provide a new way of thinking about bibliographic description and access based on what users want and need. This online program will provide an overview of FRBR and FRAD and an update on the RDA development process.

Statistics for Librarians: Analyzing Survey Data
	Description:	In this half-day workshop, Susan Kasuba and Stephen Spohn will cover basic statistical methods for analyzing library surveys. The format of the workshop will be lecture interspersed with hands-on time where you will practice the techniques covered. In addition to library-created surveys, electronic journal usage statistics and LibQual will be discussed. In this workshop, you will learn: To use basic statistical terms and tests. To perform basic statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel. To use pivot tables in Microsoft Excel to do more advanced analysis including cross-tabulations. To identify survey errors and determine confidence in survey results. This is a paired workshop. Its partner, High Impact Surveys, is offered in the morning. You may wish to consider taking both workshops to get the full picture of both the delivery and analysis of library surveys.
